WATER QUALITY CHECK - help please

gjuk Jan 18, 2004 03:29 AM

Ive reposted this as i didnt get a response before :-/

please...

ive managed to get some data about the water quality in my area. At the moment i am using bottled water, but ive just started the last bottle and thought, it would be alot cheaper to use tap water, left open for 48 hours than bottled water...

so heres the data: (im not really sure what it means!)

Instead of tap water I have a rubbermaid tote putside that catches rain water and I use that for my mistings and my tads. It works great. Just thought I would share this with you.

I use bottled spring water, and it has worked great. You may want to post your water info on frognet, as I know some of the people there will know. Most of the problems with city water is the amount of minerals in it. So it will leave deposits on your glass. Another thing is the chlorine, but that can be removed with additives or by letting it sit out for 24hours. If you picked up a nice filter for you faucet and then let that water sit out for 24 hours I bet it would be fine. Again I can not be sure, but when I first started I tested my local water and it was fine, but I still use bottled spring water. I may be switching soon as I am using a little bit more now.

I use city tap treated with "Prime" conditioner. I havent had any advese reactions. Of course, we will see what happens when they are old enough to breed.

Your lead concentration is at the upper limit of what is considered safe for drinking water. If I were you I'd be a little concerned.

I'd be concerned for both of you. Like I said that concentration of lead is what is deffined as the upper limit of safe for drinking water. Only 9% of homes in the US have concentrations at or above that level, and those are mostly private systems. I don't know anything about a frogs ablity to shed excess lead, but I would think they would be less capable then us. If you want to use the tap water try getting a PUR faucet mount filter, you can even get a cartridge for it designed to remove heavy metals.
