Not eating saga continues...advice???

jbaum Jan 18, 2004 08:11 AM

Brief history: young beardie, got as a baby in Spet. Only ate crix, though MANY things are offered. Stops eating...loses a lot of weight. Syringe feed, beack to eating a lot of crix. 2 weeks later, stops eating again. 3 fecals= Neg. Visit to vet...antibiotics and syringe feeding. Been syringe feeding for about 1 week...gaining weight back and looks good/very alert. But lazy because he doesn't want the crix, now. Too easy to be fed by syringe. All in all, very stubborn/picky beardie. I would be just as happy not having to buy crix all the time...switch to pelleted food? How should I do this considering he never ate anything that didn't move and now depending on the syringe?????? Best brand of pelleted???

Hi
repcal pellets r good.
also nice to forcefeed instead of babiefood whole time.
make him wet the pellet ,then take a syringe apart and then you can put in the back of syringe the pellet then you put syiringe back toghter and you can give it that way .
like a softicecream.

I do not think that he is brumating because he lost so much wieght and became dehydrated. From what I've read, beardies do not lose weight/dehydrate when they brumate. Now, I just need to look at the long term ramifications the weight loss and syringe feeding have caused. I read that the Baytril can upset the good bacteria...need to give acidopholus to make appetite return? How about a little yogurt? That contains the acidopholus.
