local water results...what to look for?

gutloader Jan 18, 2004 08:49 AM

other than the obvious (pesticides, man-made chemicals) what results should i be concerned about on my local water report?...chlorination by-products seem low..average ph is 7.3 adn the water is soft (15ppm)...i use filtered tap water for my cham (and me) but i was curious if chams are more sensitive to certain additives or by-products and if filtered tap water is a good way to go

Actually, filtered tap water is a good choice. You don't want distilled water (no minerals), and you don't want R/O water either.

Just use a good filtration system, and you should be okay. You want to get as much chlorine out as you can.

Hope this helps,

Most water that is OK for you will be OK for your cham. If chlorine is excessive use the filtered. If it is high in calcium or salts the residue will build up on your plants, cage furniture, and maybe the cham's skin and MIGHT cause a bit more trouble with dehydration, so again use a filter that removes mineral salts.
