DeZ Jan 18, 2004 09:56 AM

My tank is 3ft tall by 1.5ft by 1.5ft, its currently on 58W (1 36W and 2 11W tube) pls advice if that's sufficient and how I should calculate the amount of lighting I need to have for my other tank. Thanks

U can view my tank setup in the following URL

Watts should not be the big convern, but how much light you have. Try some compacts, they cost a bit more but put out some great light.

Hey kyle thanks for replying... er I'm not sure I understand the meaning of compacts, but my light tubes are Osram Dulux L 36W and Osram Dulux S 11W, are they considered as compacts? I've read thru the URL u gave, it is most interesting and educational for a newbie like me =)

By the way how do u guys make ur moss grow so "green"? When all mine does is turn brown or yellow (I collect wild moss around my area, I live in Asia) I'm trying my luck on Java Moss, which I heard is the hardiest moss around being able to survive in water n on land.

When people say compacts they are talking about lights like this:

Power compacts are great lights. I have used 3 13watt PC over a vert 10gallon and got great results. All my fireballs and other neorogelias pupped like crazy. The picture below is when the tank was about 3 months old.

Ok I just found out my lights are compact lights after all... so I guess 58W for a 3ft tall by 1.5ft by 1.5ft tank should be enough rite? The plants I've in it are money plants, bamboo plants, java moss, wild moss I collected (dunno the name) and glosso in the water area...
