Future Dream Cage. Any more safetly suggestions?

LordDreyfus Jan 18, 2004 10:20 AM

In a few years I would like to get a retic. I'm thinking about getting the Sulwalsi (sp?) locale. I would like to get one that has the potential to get huge. I know that sometimes I would have to deal with it by myself which is not good, so I was wondering if I could use the hidebox method like you use with hots. I'm thinking of building a big walk-in cage maybe a 10X20 foot enclosure. On one end I would like to put a hidebox that I can close from outside. Thereby keeping the retic confined if I had to go into the cage by myself. Would that work or are retics so big that they don't feel the need to use dark confined spaces? How about ledges or a water pool?

At the moment I'm just dreaming, because its going to be about 5 years before I can build a reptile building. I don't want to keep anything remotely dangerous in the house because I plan on having kids soon and God knows they are prone to do stupid things....like unlocking the retic cage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds great, but I don't know how u can not handle your retic. They are awsome and u should look into getting a tame one so u don't have to build the hidebox that closes from the outside. Also don't just get a Sul cause they grow big. All female retics will grow big and can reach 20ft or more. Sulawesis are very beautiful retics, here's a pic of mine. Hope this info helped.

Oh I plan on handling it. Just not without backup regardless how tame it acts. I agree with you that the Sul is a beatiful form too. My favorites are the sulwassi (sp?), tiger, and white albino.

Here is my problem with walkin cages...or room set ups if you will...Sooner or later you forget you entered the snakes territory and WHACK! They look great,a nd are easier to clean, just be careful
