To disturb or not to disturb...shedding gopher

rangeramy Jan 18, 2004 11:57 AM

Hi,

I think my sonoran gopher is about to shed-- eyes just starting to cloud over blue. My question is-- I was planning on moving him from the 29 gal to the new 55 gallon setup today. Is it better for them to have more room to move and stretch while they shed, or better not to handle them at all until they're done? He's almost 6ft. and I wanted him to have more room. I think I know the answer, but wanted your expert opinions.

Also, once the eyes turn blue, how many days until shed on average?

Thanks,
Amy

Minimal handling is no big deal. You just want to be careful not to break the old skin before the new skin is fully formed. This could cause infection.
