Water Dragon Housing

Dedalus Jan 18, 2004 12:04 PM

I am thinking about getting atleast one probobly two green (chinese) water dragons. They sound like a great animal to have. Does anyone have any input on them as pets.

Second I was thinking about putting it in a 86 Gal tank. The tank is split in half by a piece of glass 6inches high that splits the tank in half on an angle. (installed myself using aquarium silicone) one half will be filled with water and the other will be potting soil. Is this to much water and will that be enough land for the dragon. The section of water goes from 1ft 6inches at one side to 2.5ft at the other with a waterfall in the small corner. Will this be a good enclosure, or do I need more ground space?

im not sure if that would be enough space, but i will warn against putting babies in with such deep water. i had a juvi dragon drown in a pie plate that wasnt even full of water. good luck with your questions

Hey thanks for the input.

I've already read almost all of Tricia's page. I was just looking for some extra input from you guys in the forum.

As for the water depth im adding aquarium gravel until I reach the depth I need for a juvie.

I know a 90 gal isnt quite as tall as it probobly should be. I'm just asking if anyone has had any expierience with commercial tanks as a water dragon habitat.

the lady i rescued my water dragon from kept her in a 30 long tnk her whole life and becauseof it she is aboot a foot smaller then she should be, she has a severly deformed face, her mouth has rotted away up to her nostrils becaus eof severe noserub, shes missing various fingernails, her tail is a stub and only half as long as it should be,should i go on? its really a shame. do the best you can for your water dragon and get them a big nice home. try a reptarium, and save the cool tank for something else.

That tank size is ok for a baby dragon, but way too small for an adult. An adult dragon needs at least 300 gallons of space.
