Hi

My name is Flavia and i bought 2 weeks ago a CUTE baby Leopard Gecko. He is awesome!I already love him very much but each time i put my hand in his cage he hisses and makes open-mouth threats! What can i do to tame him?I really dont want to disturb him because im afraid he will drop his extra extra fat tail but id like to handle him!

he wont drop the tail unless you put pressure on it. the hissing may and may not go away. handle it in progressive time periods to try to tame it. dont worry if it bites you, it doesn't hurt a bit from a baby.

How big is the gecko? Most of the babies will hiss at you, out my hatcklings maybe 2 or 3 hasnt done it to me. He/she will get use to you. And she/he will stop hissing. n/p

It is common for very young leos to hiss and nip. Trust me, it's 'more bark then bite'. If you’re fairly new to leopard geckos, I’d suggest that you just leave the babies alone for a month or two except to clean their cages, they should calm down a lot during this time.

If you give them a small humid hide, made from a butter container, it makes life simpler. They go to sleep in their hideout and are easily moved while changing their substrate. This way you don’t have to worry about them jumping out of your hand or nipping at you.

Try putting your hand in his cage for a few minutes each day, he should soon learn that you’re not a predator. Best of luck with your little guy, and let the forum know if you have any more questions.

here one of my little guys named bart:
