How many snakes to a tank?

BallHeaded Jan 18, 2004 09:00 PM

Hi everyone,

I started out with one snake and it seems that I'm acquiring more and more of them

I have one normal ball now in a 30 gallon tank and 1.1 100% het albino balls that I bought at the Hamburg, PA show this past Saturday. I'm getting another pair of 1.1 100% het albino balls this Tuesday so I have to get another tank. Oh, did I mention that I'm receiving 2 more normals with the male being a reduced pattern later this week?

With that said, I think I'll need more tanks!!! How many balls can I have in a tank (they're still young, eating sub-adult mice)? If I need more tanks, what's a good inexpensive way to add more tanks and/or storage facilities? I've been told that rubbermaid is the way to go. If this is true, what's good configuration for setting something like this up? (Please include heating, water, substrate, etc). I plan on breeding in the future so I'd like something that I can build on.

thanks in advance one million times!

You can put as many snakes as you want together in the same tank. But if you want to keep them feeding, and make the inevitible problems easier to diagnose then you should house each snake seperately. Rubbermaids are a good choice....Do a search on racks, or tanks, or rubbermaid, or enclosure, or any other related word you can think of...if you want to find info people have already posted on the topic. Buying enclosures for all those animals at once is expensive, and you should have already had them set up before you got your new snakes, or get your new snakes.

I would definitely advise to get rubbermaid containers. They're cheap, heat and hold humidity well, and are easy to clean. You can use human heating pads set on low underneath and paper towel substrate for a really cheap set-up. Just make sure you add a couple of hides per container and a water bowl. I agree with the previous post. Keep 1 per container. They'll be much happier(less stressed).

A rack sounds like your best bet. Something like this:
