Is my tobi Burmating??

louiec Jan 18, 2004 10:13 PM

well he was born May 17th 2003 and from what I was told he would prob not burmate this winter...

but for awhile now he does seem very lazy always in his corner or under the paper towels I have in his tank... his eating has gone down... and so has his overall activity...

I have moved him around by his food to see if he would eat... on occasion I would see him eat his salad or pellets... but he really only eats live food when put in front of it...

so my question is... is he burmating? and should I just leave him be? or is he to young... and he might actually be sick??

let me know..

A lot of dragons do not brumate in their first year of life. Others do. There is nothing you can do if they decide to brumate over their first winter. As a precaution I would try to get a fecal sample tested by a vet to rule out parasites. Otherwise he is probably brumating and you have to live with it. I believe in the wild a lot of dragons brumate in the first year, the light and heat make it almost neccesary I would have to say.

That makes sense. I hadn't thought of it like that. I would say to pay attention to his weight as well. I think if he starts losing a lot of weight there may be problems where as if he doesn't lose much don't worry about it.
