Does Corucia zebrata mark their territory with urine?

jrbl Jan 19, 2004 12:33 AM

I have noticed that my new PTS urinates on new things. When I put a pothos plant in its cage, it went right over to it, and it urinated all over it. It has also urinated a couple of time when I held it. I am not sure if that means, "All right, that's enough, put me down", or "You belong to me now". Has anyone else noticed anything like this? I am just getting used to the behaviors of my new skink, so I wanted to know if this behavior is just mine or if it is present in all PTS. In my experience, PTS urinate, as well as defecate, in the water dish and in their food, but I don't remeber them doing this. Any input would be appreciated. jrbl

When I purchased my very first Monkey Tail Skink, an imported female, she would urinate everytime I picked her up, now she does not do that anymore. None of my captive bred and born colonies have ever displayed this behavior. I have picked up and held Monkey Tail Skinks ( most likely all imports) at reptile shows and have also had them urinate. I believe they do that when they are frightend and feel threatend!!!! I have talked to others also who's MTS do this all the time no matter how long they have had them and continue too urinate when held!!!
As far as urinating to mark territory, I have not observed that!!! All of my Corucia use the same spot to deficate or urinate in and never go anywhere else. I have a litter box with the front cut out in all of their enclosures that they go in and use, which is easily cleaned and keeps the rest of the cage clean!!! Potty trained MTS!!LOL
Good Luck!!!!!!!
