hi everybody! i am new to the forum and have a couple of questions. first a little history on me. for the last 10 years i have had a green iguana! now with the passing of that ig i am interested in getting a rhino or a cuban rock ig. what ever i chose to get would be a free roamer. so my question is what do you guys suggest would be a better ig? i have heard rhinos don't tame down as easily? thank you for any replies

Robert, I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your Green Iguana. They can be fascinating creatures. Choosing a Cyclura iguana is a difficult thing. I keep Rhinos, Cubans, and hybrids and if I had to choose to keep only one it would be the Rhinos. I've also been told that they don't tame down as well as Cubans but I don't believe it. My 3 are wonderful animals...calm, willing to be picked up and handled, and terrific educational lizards. My young adult female will actually come to me and put her front feet up on my leg to be picked up!! I'm sure whatever you choose, if you give it time and good husbandry, you'll be happy with your Cyclura. A lot of us agree that the 2 year old mark is a magical time: at 2 years they just seem to calm down and become a totally different lizard. Good luck!

Hi, David Blair has some nice animals, and he is a nice guy. You may want to contact the Ehrigs as well. They have some nice animals, and he may have some adults, if thats what your looking for. Contact Kevin of KWE he also produces fantastic multi horn rhinos. He is a regular on this forum, and he may be able to help you. There are other nice breeders, but im not sure who has what available at the moment. If you want contact info for Robert Ehrig please email me at mbwlizards@hotmail.com.
regards,

It's the luck of the draw. My mostkindest and gentle cyclura has been a male rhino. My most vicious and nastiest has been a male rhino. He was so vicious towards me, he would beat his nose against the outside wire just to get to me. He almost killed his mate. I had to feed him at night when he was sleeping. I opened the cage once, and he "full on" sprinted chasing me around the yard until I grabbed a rake to protect myself. I pinned him down, and grabbed him behind the neck and held him for five minutes. I tossed him away from me, and he came right back at me. Funny thing is, he was only this way towards me! He ignored everyone else. Needless to say, it got old and I had to sell him.
This male I have now has an awsome disposition. I also bought a baby pair from KWE a few months ago, and these guys seem pretty nice. They don't fight and get along in the same cage.
My lewisii are super gentle also. My cubans are a little skitzo although I have heard from most that they are the tamest species.
This probably hasn't helped you at all, so I would get whatever you think looks the best.
