Another Gutloading question

shopaholic Jan 19, 2004 02:00 AM

Hi friends: I looked in Chamelon ezine and past posts but I really couldn't find the recipes you folks talk about. I am still very new at this, would you mind posting the exact ingredients of Dry and wet Gutload, the no-no's and better yet, is there a dry gutload I could just purchase while I'm still learning? Its approaching time for my Cham to arrive, I need to get the food all situated now. Thanks-maggie

i've made some changes to mine...i think it's pretty good...kale,apple,nectarine,red pepper, green pepper, squash, black eyed peas,carrot,grapes...finely chopped...i go easy on the squash and grapes...that's on one side of the food dish...on the other is "cricket diet by T-Rex"...i feed small portions of each so that all the food is just about finished by the morning and there's no picking thru and taking just what they want (for 24 adult crickets: 1/2 teaspoon of wet and 1/4 teaspoon of cricket diet)..hope this helps

stay away from spinach...you can tweak the mash but stay away from juicy fruits (oranges, lemons, berries) as these tend to spoil the mash...especially the citrus fruits

Thanks! Why not spinage? Are there any other no-nos? Thanks-Maggie

Hi Maggie,

There are a few vegetables that contain a calcium-binding agent, thus rendering the opposite effect of feeding vitamin rich foods. Spinach is one of them.

Certain cabbages and broccoli are also included. I know there is a list somewhere - I'll see if I can find it for you.

To me it is just worth buying it rather than dealing with making it.
Plus this way I know it is consistent
www.cricketfood.com
As for the vegetable I just put in a piece of whatever I have.
I try to vary it every few days.
Kale for a few days carrots for a few days then squash or right now I am using pumpkin slices.
You can also use apple slices or oranges cut in half. You don't have to waste time shredding or chopping it up small as the crickets don't care and then it is easy to remove the next day and put in a new piece.
