Compact Ballasts:

kyle1745 Jan 19, 2004 07:58 AM

Ok this topic has been talked about a lot and I found a post on a yahoo group for Vivariums with some great info I thought I would pass on. Thes posters name was RICK so I do not want to take any credit for this.

Check out this site for the type of ballast, then do a search on ebay for them. I found some for about $20 or so cheaper than I had in the past. If you want to build your own CF this is the way to go. they have some that will run up to 4 bulbs.

Now I have yet to try this method, but I will for my next project just to test the overall cost.

I am by NO means an electrician, but I have replaced my share of ballasts on 4' flourescent fixtures. I have NO clue what I am looking for on this webpage for compact ballasts? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Well if you pick Biax, then the number of bulbs to watts. So say 2x36/39 you get 3 options or names. Then you can go on ebay and look at the auctions for that same name. Example the results on that are the workhorse 5, which there are a couple autions to buy it now for $27-30.
