Scales All Screen Cages - Question

Falenst Jan 19, 2004 11:08 AM

I hope someone can help me with this. I bought one of the Scales screen cages, and am wanting to enclose three sides with acrylic sheets. Well, the best way to attach the sheets would be to use the latches that hold the front door, and lower pivoting door on the front. But, thing is, where in the world do I find those? Does anyone know what they are even called?

Any help would be great folks!

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,

You e-mail me privately a week or two ago and I was unable to reply - it bounced back every time. I've been having that trouble with e-mails sent through kingsnake for some reason.

I cannot remember the reason for your e-mail. Feel free to repost and I'll answer the best I can.

Regarding your current question, I'm not sure how much I can help not being familiar with that product.

Perhaps some mirror holders could be attached to the frame to hold the acrylic?

Anyway you can post a picture to show what you mean?

Hi Chris,
Don't worry about the other message I sent you, I figured it out. Enclosing the tank will hold the "fog" produced by the humidifier.

Here is a pic of the latch I'm trying to identify. Any ideas?

Hi Phil,

That was one of my suggestions, more or less.

Those latched or thumb/finger tabs. I've purchased those at a Rockler wood working store in Indianapolis, IN.

I think you could take that picture to some cabinet or wood working shops in your area and find something.

At the very least you should be able to find a bulky plastic or metal version at any hardware store.

Are you going to have the acrylic inbetween the screen frame and then use the tabs to hold it in place?

If you want the acrylic rest against the frame you could use mirror hangers as I already suggested. They have an offset to account for the width of the mirror, or acrylic in your case.

Well the outer side of the screen is inset, and if I get the proper acrylic sheet, I'm hoping to lay the sheet into the inset. That way, the acrylic would be more or less, flush with the edge of the screen frame. Biggest reason I wanted the pivot latch in the picture was ease of removal, for cleaning of the acrylic. But if I cannot find them, the mirror hangers will work fine.

Chris, is it okay if I ask you a few more questions? Obviously, I haven't gotten my cresty yet, but just had a few ideas I would like to bounce off you. My email is zimherper@cox.net. Look forward to talking to you.

Thanks a lot

Phil

I've got a Scales screen cage for one of my cresteds. I cut sections of a black trash bag and scotch taped them to the frame of the cage. Works great to help hold some humidity, and if you stretch it tight, it actually looks ok too. Use black bags to provide some dark hiding corners that the animals will appreciate.
