v. albigularis taming question

g.gartner Jan 19, 2004 12:36 PM

Hi folks,

I recently purchased a baby (less than 12" tl) black throat and was wondering what type of regimen you have all used to tame young monitors. He's fairly aggressive/defensive when I take him out. I'm not overly worried about being bitten (I've dealt with snakes for a long time), but I'm more worried about him becoming overly stressed as everytime I take him out, he seems to get really worked up. Up till now, I've only taken him out about once every two or three days and even then for only a minute or two at a time.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I only want what's best for the lizard, but I would certainly like a reliable beast some day.

thanks a ton,
gabriel

-How long have u had him for? Make sure he gets settled in. I recomend u leave him alone for a week and then try to handle him. Handle him for about 5minutes. Then wait another day and handle him for ten. Follow this pattern and he will get used to u and tame down soon. Good luck! I hope this helps!
