Anyone else use ROPE LIGHTS for cage or rack heating? I LOVE it!

Jeff Schofield Jan 19, 2004 01:26 PM

It is cheap, safe, expandable and best of all has the desired temp range for herps! It does look like my racks are off of the bridge on the Enterprise or out of a disco, lol, but thats unique too! Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I have rope light stretched over a bank of displays. Some of the heat does transmit up into the cage above but I'm not using it as a heat source per se.

There was a great thread on this stuff last year. I can't remember if it was here or on Boaphile's forum.

The gist of the thread was whether or not it was okay to use a rheostat or temperature controller with these products.

The company said no, but the only contact was some US distributor and not a technician or engineer. So it was suspected the distributor was just covering his or her bases for liability reasons. Somebody else did a bit more research and said it would be fine.

I looked for that thread a bit today before I responded but could not find it. Do you know anything about this?

I may have just read a website and not an actual forum thread. I'll look some more.
