I posted this on another forum awhile back and got mixed responses, so I thought I'd ask on this one. I have a gopher from Northern Arizona east of Flagstaff. She has a very similar pattern to my other Sonorans, but a completely differrent color, and smaller size. I know that affinis can have alot of color variations, but her color is very dark blotches(almost black) with a brick red in the fore end and a peach orange as the base color on the back third. She is also much smaller than any full grown Sonoran I've ever had or caught. I found her at almost 7000' elevation and I've seen what looked like Sonorans that were as pure as the driven snow only thirty miles east of there and 2000' less elevation. Is it the altitude that effects the size and color? Does anyone have a good range map of this area? The reason for asking is because I want to breed her to one of my males who's parentage are from S.E. AZ, about 200 miles away. Anyones input would be appreciated, positive or negative.
