Hi everyone,
This is my first year attempting to breed my eastern indigos, and while things seem to have gone well so far, I have a question from the more experienced of you here.
As of now, I only have one male of breeding size (two females) and he's got a beautiful red throat.
Whenever I introduced one of my females for mating this season, it looked as though the red coloration under his chin got dramatically brighter, and extended higher up the sides of his head, and much further down the length of his belly.
If it was a subtle difference, I wouldn't be wasting your time with this post, but the difference was truly amazing.
Is this a regularly occurring thing, or is it more a result of my excitment about seeing my indigos breed?
I know about males of all sorts of animal species displaying brighter colors during breeding season, but I haven't heard of this in snakes before. I wish I had taken photos of him while he was in his 'check me out' coloration.
Is this a regular thing, or am I crazy, or perhaps both?
