New corn

Wizwise2000 Jan 19, 2004 11:57 PM

My new corn wants to take off my arm. I've only had her 2 days. When I put my hand in her tank to change water she looks like she wants to kill me. She doesn't like to wander about, I assume she leaves her hide(s) at night when everyone goes to bed. She ate a pinkie today. So far she has kept it down.

Do corns tame easily? I'm worried she will always try to bite me.

Thanks a lot everyone.
Shane.

She's a little stressed out right now. Just got moved to a new home, and I assume she's an '03 hatchling, since you are feeding her pinkies. Now that she just ate...Leave her alone for a few days. Don't mess with her at all. You want her to feel very safe so that she keeps her food down.
Yes, she will hide quite a bit, especially right now. Yes, she will almost surely calm down over the next several months. Once she has fed several times and kept all of those meals down, begin gently handling her, making sure that you give her 2-3 days "peace and quiet" after each meal. Some folks say that a day or two is fine, but for a new baby I would give her 3 days, handle her on the 3rd, 4th and/or 5th, and then feed her again.
But let her settle in for a few weeks first. Good luck. You will be amazed how calm she will be for you very soon. Duffy

My 2 corns hide all the time when I first got them. I was a bit tense when I held them too, thinking I was going to get bit. They do calm down! Mine are real tame now. Eventually they started to venture out, even in the early evenings before it gets dark. They are quite at home now and let me pick them up whenever. Remember yours is in a new enviroment and you are like a big preditor to him/her. Be patient and you'll be happy in the long run. You do need to handle him/her often so he'll get used to it.
