Hairy Poop

svinarsk Jan 20, 2004 01:15 AM

I came home today and went to check on my ig and noticed he had a piece of poop hanging from his vent. I thought this was odd... Then I noticed that the poop was being held together and hanging by a human hair. The hair infact was so long that I had to slowly pull the damn thing out of my igs butt! Could this experience have caused any stress on my little friend? And is hair bad for them?

-Thanks

That happens to my dog. Can't believe I admitted that in public. Better out than in?

Hair ingestion can infact be very bad. Many years ago our big female actually had hair entwined in her epiglottis. When your iguana opens their mouth full, you will see a small tube like thing. That is the epiglottis. It caused swelling, irritation and infection. She almost did die. Another thing hair can do is wrap around the internal organs. Lastly it can cause stomach impaction.

If you have long hair like I do, you may need to wear it in a braid or bun. I took to that many years ago and now that I have near waist length hair I do it before going near anything that will come in contact with the reptiles. One or two hairs shouldnt cause problems, but you need to look at the long run.
