need some ideas

jeffers Jan 20, 2004 04:50 AM

i need some ideas on what i should get next. im 19 i going to college and me and a friend are getting ready to get an apartment. well the problem is is that i have a 55 gallon reptile tank with nothing to put in it. right now i have a tarantula, scorpions, bearded dragon, and ferret. i have also had snakes and other little animals. i am only going to take the scorpions and tarantula with me as well as my 55 gallon tank. my parents like my lizard and my ferret alot so im leaving them at home. now i just wanted some ideas on what would be a good habitat and for what. im willing to try any pet but i like reptiles and im thinking about a fairly big lizard or snake or put a few things in it that can live together or maybe some exotic pets i havent even thought about. and i just wanted some suggestions on what i should get and a good setup. i love animals and am willing to take on new challenges so please send a reply or mail me at usiguy19@yahoo.com
thanx

What are those things, like 4 feet long? You could get a skinny 6 foot snake or a fat 4 foot snake. I wouldn't get any lizards over a foot. You could also get a very small turtle. Or a pair of degus. Or a lorikeet.

55gl aquarium? If its In good repair...Have you considered using it for what it was built for? Fish can be a great addition to your home and many species can be kept together. Now there is a challenge for you that is highly rewarding. I keep snakes, but I would not part with my fish either.

Oh yeah... maybe a killer African cichlid set up with some Synodontis catfish... sigh... OR you could get mudskippers!

Personally I go for a colony of South American Dwarf cichlids (Apistogramma) with some nice Cardinal Tetras. Or, One big Cental American Cichlid (very good pets if kept singly). I have a Quetzal and he loves to flirt with my wife. They are very communicative and surprisingly playful for a fish.

Rainbowfish, barbs, and loaches might be cool too. I've had bad luck with fish and decided to do turtles instead, so right now I just have a 29 with some random stuff (mostly catfish)

How about a poison dart frog vivarium? With that large of a tank, you can put in small waterfalls and a couple of different species of frogs.
