Gilbery007 Jan 20, 2004 12:23 PM

Hi all, just 2 quick questions. How can i get my leo's fat fast? And does it matter about cage size, like with some reptiles they will only grow to the size of their cage, are leo's the same???I am currently feeding my Male (8 months old) leo 10 crix every other day and my lil girl (2months old i think) she has like 25 crix (3rd size) every other day. Can ne one tell me if i'm doing ne thing wrong, and if not how can i make them get real fat and fast???

Hi

Do you keep them in one or two seperate tanks?

Using a good gutload will help your geckos growth rates, my "secret" ingredient to stimulate growth is ground flax seed in the gutload (omega 3 fatty acids). Plus vitamins and calcium and protein and carbs of course

Also, adjust temps on the warm side to 90 instead of 88.

House geckos individually for best growth.

I think some of eating/growth patterns is genetic, some lines tend to be "hardier" than others.

Yes they r seperated. My male eats full grown crix and my female eats 3rd size. I feed both of the crix tropical fish flakes and use a wetted paper towel for a source of water as i find when i use potatoe alot of them seem to die from the humidity. Ne crix recipes would be greatly appreciated thx all.

Here's some ingredients I use:

oatmeal
pressed barley
"green" drink mix (has spirulina, dried wheatgrass juice, blue-green algae, alfalfa, stuff like that in it)
Soy protein supplement powder (w/vitamins and minerals in it)
ground flax seed (for omega-3 fatty acids)
carrots
greens (dark green leaf lettuce, kale, broccoli leaves etc...)
calcium
a little herp vitamins

Basically, IMO you want make sure your gutload contains carbs, protein, a bit of "good" fats (omega-three fatty acids), calcium, and vitamins. Vitamins can come from produce, food powders (like the green drink and soy supplement I use), or herp vitamins, or all of the above. I try to provide a varied diet that offers a borad range of nutrition from vegetable sources as well as supplements.

Others have recommended ...what is the name...search for ICB and you'll find it, it's a complete vitamin/protein/carb.mineral formula you dust on feeders and can replace an elaborate gutload.

T-Rex's Insect and Cricket Balancer.

That's an impressive gutload, Star. Makes me ashamed to feed my feeders just a meager gutload. Thanks for sharing.
