egg laying Q

iso Jan 20, 2004 01:40 PM

hi all

Ive noticed the substrate in my cages is being dug into every night. I then flatten it out - the next morning it is dug up again.

is this just what a female does as habit? or is it a hint that she is getting ready to lay?

Also - do they lay eggs on the surface? or do they cover them completely?

thank you

They also try to cover the eggs completely and will choose a moist area. They will mound substrate over the eggs if the substrate isn't deep enough to dig a hole in.

I came in last night and one of the females had half buried herself in the substrate. I dont know if that is egg laying or what!

Right now it is coco husk and I watered it and packed it down...she has dug at least half of it up!

Now - if she lays - how long till I would know if the eggs are good?

When does the male need to breed with her to make the eggs fertile?

Do females retain sperm? I ask since my female jackson laid two clutches and was only with my male once.

thanks all
