Range Maps for Pituophis

bigmoqui Jan 20, 2004 03:21 PM

Does anyone know a good site with a range map of these species for the western U.S.? I posted below, but got no response. I looked on some search engines, but wasn't able to find what I'm looking for. I just need to know if my snake is affinis, deserticola, or an intergrade, because I want to breed soon with one of my pure affinis. I wish I had a digital camera, then I could post pics of her so someone could probably I.D. her. Does anyone have a pic of an intergrade from Northern Az they could post, or any pit from N. AZ.

Get a field guide for the western U.S. and that should help. They are normally for sale anywhere that has reptile books. I just replaced mine from Amazon/.

Hi, I am a German pituophis enthusiast.

I know (and own) affinis from Kingman, Az. with a visible greater influence of deserticola.

My sources for pituophis ranges are f.e. http://www.reptilesofaz.com/herp-snakes.html

Google can give so much if you ask the right questions

All Pituophis are good visualised in Rodriguez articles: http://www.unlv.edu/faculty2/jrodriguez/24.pdf

and this one!!!!!: http://www.unlv.edu/faculty2/jrodriguez/21.pdf

Most of the ranges base on Klaubers works of the 40 s, f.e. Classification and Ranges of the Gopher Snakes of the Genus Pituophis in the Western United States.

But what is the most actual I don't know... 50 years before there were f.e. no Brown Anoles in Florida. And today?? Have they already reach Georgia?
