vent tank in progress

mbmcewen Jan 20, 2004 05:25 PM

This is my 15 high vent tank. So far I only have the background up as you can see. I also have a pump running for a trickle down the back....no pond though. I made the tank a side opener which you can see in the next photo.

Thanks for looking.

Here is the side. Thanks to Ken at peace of the tropics for the cork, acrylic hinge, and acrylic clasp. I should be receiving some broms and moss from him in the next few days.

Thanks for looking,

If you move the fan to the front of the tank you might not have to let as much air in. I have been thinking of a way to put the fan in the front, that looks like a good way. I think after another tank or so I am going to make my own. Just a matter of getting some glass cut.

Yeah the fan placement is not the best but my options were limited with a completely closed top.

I meant just move it a bit to the left, so it blows across the front more.

I see.... I placed it there because I am going to mount a tillandsia right in front of it to keep it dry.

It will do that, but it could also dry out the whole background also. Fans are the best way to keep the condenstaion down, but can be a pain too.

yeah I know. I have the fan blowing through small holes instead of one big hole. I can plug a couple to get the balance right.

So far so good, looks very nice. I am going to make another one myslef here soon, just a matter of getting to the store and getting a tank. If it wasn't for the lighting costs I think I would have about 10 tanks right now...

yeah I know what you mean. I need the reds to come out in this one so I broke down and bought compacts. Thanks for the compliment

I have yet to be able to keep the reds. I have a fireball 6 inches or so from 2x13watt CFs and it is losing the little red it had. Not my other brom with red spots is staying as it should. Not sure, anyone have any ideas on keeping firballs red?

Maybe it will come back, but no telling. Other than adding 2 36watts I have no idea what else to do.
