More problems then its worth?

sobek Feb 09, 2003 12:32 PM

Hi, on the old fourms I was asking about a live planted terrarium, live moss/plants etc. And Howheels made some very good points about the "mess" that Mossy Leaftails make. I was wondering if a live setup is more trouble then its worth? Just wanted a few more opinions on this subject before I start my planning.

I have 0.2 U. sikorae in a 30XH planted naturalistically. There's a cork bark background, two yucca plants (look like miniature trees complete with large trunk section) and a bromeliad on the ground. I'm currently in the process of plannig on building a new cage for them that will have the two yucca trees again, a dieffembachia, maybe a pothos and some more small airplants. They are not that messy. Every once in a great while they might poop on the glass, but they're not very messy at all. I haven't noticed it with my sikorae, but my U. phantasticus have communal pooping areas so it's easy to find and clean up (and luckily it's in the back of the cage). It's well worth it. It's more much pleasing to the eye and it's fun to look for em after the first day or two and see where they hide. Generally each animal only has one, maybe two spots they will rest on every day.

Wait a minute, how much did you say you feed your guys again??

My sikorae eat maybe 10-12 crickets each per week, but sometimes I think they leave more behind than they consume!

My geckos have developed their own "spots" as well, unfortunately, those spots are every except for spots which would otherwise be easy for me to clean!

This includes spots like nooks and crannies on their branches / bark, their water dish, the side of the glass, and EVERYWHERE on the moss.

How's the smell in your enclosure?
