There were plenty of these snakes for sale on the auctions last fall. I thik I saw them going for between $50 & $100 US. I know that they have been bread from one found in Texas (Texas Rat Snake). There are stories of one being found in Maryland (Black rat Snake). They are not cheep but they are out there.

If you are expecting a white snake with dark blue eyes, make this clear to the breader in advance. Not everyone agrees as to what a leucistic snake is. Some breaders consider a white snake with pink eyes to also be a leucistic snake.

Good luck with your search.

A white with pink eyes is probably a combination of leucistic and albino of some sort.

I've tried to tell the "fan" over & over a Leucistic has normal coloured eyes but an Albino Leucistic has pink eyes. He doesn't quite grasp the idea of an animal that is homozygous for more than one trait.

Now you are just being rude. You and I don't agree on the definition of what a leucistic snake looks like. That is not a problem for me. I recognize that the meaning of the term in this forum is not cut in stone. Again, not a problem. Since peoples ideas may vary as to what a snake with this label would look like with respect to eye color (obviously we do), I suggested that if he wanted one with dark eyes, to make that clear to the seller.

If I were trying to buy such a snake over the web (i.e., not in person), I would ask about the color of the eyes myself. That is just me; I would want mine to have dark eyes. If pink eyes work for someone else, fine by me. But, having learned from previous discussions on this forum, I could not assume the dark eye color when I saw an offer for a snake that was labeled as being leucistic.

Yes, I do know it is possible to have a snake that is homo for both traits and that the traits are unrelated. I know too that you can cross two albino rat snakes (amelanistic) and get nothing but wild type offspring. I know what would cause it, and I know what genotype of the offspring would have to be. I also know that you did not take the time to read my post in this thread. Nowhere did I say in my post that a leucistic snake must have dark eyes.

If I were breeding leucistic snakes, and I crossed two dark eyed parents and got some offspring with pink eyes, I would know for certain that they were homo for both traits and I would sell them as albino leucistic rat snakes. I would not say that they were just plain leucistic rat snakes. Hey, but that is just me.

Caveat emptor!

You never tried to explain anything to me, but if you want to lump me into the category "fan" and figure that I don't understand anything. Although I do understand completely. Understand, also, that my girlfriend is looking for AT LEAST one leucistic right now, more likely two. Now I know who NOT to buy from. Understand that?

go back & re-read the thread. The remark was directed to Paul Hollander about "fan" - not you. You apperently did not catch the thirty line thread down the page where "fan" was trying to tell me that a Leucistic with pink eyes means it is no longer a Leucistic. Which is not the case - of course. But he wanted to argue & keep arguing w/out making a point or answering the original question which was - "What do you get from breeding an Albino X a Leucistic?" I did not want Paul to waste his time explaining something to someone w/ no comprehension. I've answered plenty of your questions Vince & if you don't want to buy from me you are not hurting my feelings. I'm just on here to try to help others as I have tried to help you. Sometimes you just get people who want to argue - that is all. Feel free to introduce yourself @ the Col. show so I can put a face to the name.....

You are right, I didn't see the post you were talking about. So I took it out of context and didnt know that "fan" was a particular person, I thought it was a generalized group of reptile "fans" Also sorry for being so edgy, I've had THREE bad dealer experiences in the last week and its got me on edge.
I look forward to meeting you at the show, you can't miss me, I'll be the big bald guy with a pony tail
