Urgent I helped remove shed for some one at the petstore i work at bad problem help ..

Hey

I work at a petshop some one came in with a four year old completely melanistic with horrible dry shed and they were worried to death. I took her sat her in the sink with warm water for about 30 minutes then rubbed her down in shedding oil from there I wipped off as much as I could with cotton q tips and used tweezers for the rest it was stuck like cement. They said for doing this I could breed her with one of mine they voluntered it. So I took her home got there email adrees shes been in quarintine for 2 of her 50 days so far under her belly today were the dry shed was worst I noticed a patch of clear looking skin it looked scaleless like the dry shed pulled the scales off in that are its about 2 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inches wide. There arent any good herp vets in my area and my vet said there wasnt anything I could do about it which I know. IM sure she will be fine but it looks liek the scales were pullen out there are not open wounds and I was just wondering if she will be ok. Has this happend to anyone before? I gave them intstructions to add a humid hide. Is there any lotions or anything I should give her?
I emailed them already.

Any help apprecieated.

Hi

You said there where no open wounds on that scales area on her stomach, that is good. You are right, there isn't really anything in my opinion to worry about and you can take a deep breath. I'am not sure on this next part, but I would say in just a ways down the road here, that she will regenerate scales there, just give it time.

Also, after how bad the shed was on her when the people brought her to you, she sure could stand to go through a couple easy sheds, thats for sure. Hopefully you will be able to keep her for a long enough period for that to happen before they want her back.

Take Care, TLB

If I were you, I wouldn't breed her. Her condition may have been husbandry issues but dry sheds are also an indication of health problems.

You may bring in a disease or health issue into your colony and at the very least, you will be compromising the female's health. If she will ever be strong enough to be bred it should be next year or later. Quarentine is good but in the case of a known health issue, it would be bettewr to wait much longer.

Thanks

Its not a husbandry problem they brought it here cage and take her to the vet once a month there fortey and have no kids no dogs just to leos they are quite and strong. She seems to be fine and believe me its no disease they take her to a reptile vet 150 miles away just for check ups shes so fat not the largest but large weighing in at 69 grams. I will see how it goes and then see about breeding shes got a lot of excess fat being that shes not to long they wanted me to breed her so she could lose a lil weight and be a momy they just didnt no about the humid hide thing this has been her only bad shed.

Thanks for all your help,
