Handling a spectical camon

hey guys this may sound stupid but i have a young spectical and I picked him up yesterday and he was cool but today i picked him up and got him about half way out of the tank and he began thrashing. I let him go back into the tank but i'm wondering how long i should wait until i try to handle him again. Will he remember this stuff? Thanks guys
