Heating question

jwalters Jan 20, 2004 11:10 PM

I have a very healthy 1 1/2 yrl old male corn that is doing great ~41" (i got him when he was a week or two old). I've been reviewing the care sheets. I know they say 80-85 degrees F. (ambient air temp) on the hot side of the cage. I use the Zoo Med 30 - 40 gallon under the tank heater. My question is, does this mean it's ok if the glass above my heater reaches 90-95 degrees in order to reach the 80-85 degree ambient temp?

I use astroturf as bedding and I've always kept the tempature of the cage at the ~84 degrees, but when I set the thermometer down on the turf, I noticed how much hotter the astroturf was.
From what I have read that is one of the issues with larger tanks and under the tank heater units.
Any comments?
