pumkin_butter Jan 21, 2004 12:00 AM

hello all, never posted here before but i read alot of the messages...i have a 0.0.1 snow corn snake born in the summer of '02 and am looking for another corn of similar age/size...i believe my snow is male, but haven't had "him" sexed yet so im not 100% sure...not interested in breeding *yet* and was just wondering, if i got another snake, would it be ok to house the 2 together? i have a 20gal long that my snow is in now. i've heard "yes" and "no" so thought this would be a good place to check...any response is appreciated =)

thanks alot!

It would be a bad idea to house them together right away for sure, because the new snake should be "quarantined" for a month at least to be sure it's not bringing any mites, parasites, or diseases into your home. Also, if you don't know the sex, it can be messy, two males may get ornery around breeding season, fighting over an imaginary female, and a male and female can breed when the female is still too small to handle carrying and delivering eggs, this can result in death even. While two females wouldn't be near as bad, it can still stress out one or the other, and could be hard to tell which is the one who regurged.

There's a million and a half other reasons not to house them together at all. But some people do it without problems. But I believe those people generally still quarantine any new snake for up to three months. Also, a 20-long is good for one adult, but I think two would find it pretty cramped.

So where's the snow pics?? we all like pictures

Good luck,

No,a 20 long is to small. Not nowing the sexes can result in premature breeding,or males battling it out over territory. While there are people that do keep 2 snakes together for a novice i would still have to say no.If you still decide to do it make sure there both sexed and female.Your still gonna have to quarantine the new snake for at least 60 days. Then you have to worry about stressing the snakes out,if one get's ill both will. There are more negatives than positives keeping snakes together. The only time i put 2 snakes is for breeding only, other than that they can just blow kisses thru the glass at each other. This is just my opinion and im not flaming you...Paul.
