My cal king...

Kyle_Gecko Jan 21, 2004 12:31 PM

This is my california kingsnake...I have a question also, I have heard people call California kingsnakes by 2 diffrent names. Desert California Kingsnake and some other name i forgot (maybe coastal or centreal?) And i was wondering what one mine is and how do you tell the diffrence. I got this guy from ken at www.kenssnakes.com ... He has some great looking snakes.

Thanks sorry if that was a confusing question

here is a closer picture

Hi Kyle,
Most people consider black and white cal.kings like yours desert phase, and the ones that are more of a dark brown to light brown with yellow are considerd coastal phase. Its actually where they are from that makes them one or the other. They are the same snake, just different from different locales. Its kind of like rosy boas-(but not to the extreme of rosy locales). Nice black and whites are cool looking, but coastals are my favorite. Good looking snake too. Hope this helps you a little bit to understand a bit better.
