Why I use newspaper.

When I pull newspaper each week I remove most of the urine from the cage.

I hope you don't let the cage get that filthy before you replace it with fresh paper; looks like caked old feces and uric acid which is not a healthy environment for a ball python to sit on. But, I do agree, there is nothing better than paper as long as it is cleaned right away when soiled.

All my cages are cleaned every 7 days.
This was from two large big breeders.

I use aspen and have usually replaced sections of it about once a month each section. Or obviously if I saw something that was soiled I would replace that area right away. I'm willing to bet my snakes cage is not near as clean as I thought it was! Thanks for pointing that out.

Amazing, isn't it? The day after I added a Rubbermaid hide to my tank, my BP "christened" it with pee and poop. If only he'd do it in there every time! Much easier to clean. Anyway - there was at least 8 oz of urine (liquid form). I couldn't believe it!

You can not see it as much in wood chips. And sometimes I look at the news paper and it is clean. So you get to see what is in the cages at a glance.
