boastud Jan 21, 2004 04:10 PM

I wanted to 26x 18" pieces of glass for my 48x24x24 cage. They said it would cost $80!!!!
Someone posted and said that they had 4 pieces cut for $40!? Where would be the best place to go?

What kind of glass? I just got a peice of 1/4" tempered 36x24 for 24.00, the edge grinding was extra 18.00. I'd keep shopping.

My price was including the edging, i didn't realize it was so expansive. Where did you get yours done?

Dude: is knowing the name of the local shop I buy glass from really going to help you? Unless you live down the street from me and I don't know it, I kinda doubt it...

If you don't like the prices from the place you tried, open up the phone book and call some more places! Or tell Glass Doctor that you can't afford that and ask them if there's any way to bring the price down. Maybe they've given you a price for tempered glass, for example, and you could get by with "standard".

Um...I think that is on the high side. You must have gotten tempered glass prices and even then, a bit steap.
I have several enclosures that I needed sliding glass cut about that size. And it costs me $25 for a pair. And that includes polishing the edges.

I get plate glass and have used them for several years with no trouble. Tempered is safer, in case it breaks but that's your call.

I would call around and ask specificly for plate glass with polished edges.

Good luck,
Troy

Call around, ask for estimates, and if the tempered is too high of a price, ask for plate and have them laminate it. It might be cheaper. Or go to Home Depot, and get some window film, you can usually get a smaller piece from the glass shop. It goes onto the glass like window tint, and protects it from breaking.
I got two pieces of glass, polished and all for about $40. They were each about 36x24. Luckily where I live there are quite a few glass dealers in one area, and you can call each up and tell them how much the other said, and they will outdo them.
