Mouth Rot, update

RalphSnakeMan Jan 21, 2004 07:29 PM

Okay so the snake shed on 01/21/04 and the mouth looks a lot better now, should I Still bring it to the vet or should I try and treat this at home?

Here's the pic:

P.S. Sorry it's not the greatest, but the snake wouldn't stay still.

I didn't check the inside of his mouth, I really should have...I will try and check later on tonight or tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for the response.

Actually, I was thinking from your first photo that it didn't look like mouth rot to me. Mouth rot shows up as thick off-white or yellow material built up over a wound inside the mouth. It is only visible from the outside when it gets bad enough that the snake can't close it's mouth properly.

If it is mouth rot, I have had good success with treating mild cases in the past by simply wiping away the caseous matter (the yellow/white stuff) very gently with a clean Q-tip and gently rinsing the area (use an eye dropper) with hydrogen peroxide. Afterwords, I wipe a few drops of betadine on the area with a new Q-tip. I do this for a couple of days and it invariably clears up.

Chris,

So what do you think it is then? This IS quite puzzling, the snakes mouth appears fine now that it has shed...could it be some type of skin disorder or something?

:

Thanks for your time,
Ralph

More specifically it could be Body Rot. Same cures apply.

I am not Chris, nor likely as experienced but when I first saw the picture I thought the snake had nose rub or some sort of injury. Just me maybe

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with the software.

How do you like your green tree python? Just wondering, because I was thinking about getting one. How is the temperment?

Hi,

I really like my GTP, he doesn't bite, and has a VERY good disposistion, when I bought him, I requested the "tamest" feeding one they had, and they came through for me!

Let me know if you have any more specific questions or anything!
