my new boa

hey my friend just gave me a new boa constrictor....i have it in a 50 gallong tank with mulch on the bottom, a plastic box for it can hide with a heat pad under it and a bowl of water. lately the boa has just been staying in the bowl of water. and it doesnt like to go in its hiding spot.....what should i do???

Try putting a hide on the cold end too. Also, check for mites.

it doesnt have mites.and i have a ball python and i know it likes to be warm butr this boa is just either hiding right next to the hiding spot or it goes in the water or just chills along the cage.....nebody have ne suggestions on wat to do???

First of all he may be ready to shed. (if not)

Since you have a fifty gallon(i assume it has a screen top), the heat pad may be drying him out and the tank, try placing some solid material(ie. wood, plastic) over the the screen top(allow air in of course).

Or the heat pad is too hot. You have mulch on the bottom of the tank and your snake will become in direct contact with the glass and burn himself.

Try placing multiple hide spots(in different parts of the heat gradiant). Also you may want to differ the sizes. When he choses a size, stick with it and introduce another into the enclosure.

well last night i put him in his hiding spot and he stayed there for a little while....now today i woke up and it was bedhind the hidding spot just resting there. what has me worried is that whenever i touch it its really cold.......and the head isnt too hot..i had to take some mulch out because it wasnt warming up the bottom enough....suggestions?
