I notice one thing when looking around at breeder setups... one hide for adults... Isn't this very detrimental to their health? Or do the fact that they are kept in an unlighted rack simulate them always in a hide?

No it is not detrimental to their health. In the wild they would be hiding under rocks and what not during the day, that is why people have been so successful with rack systems and proof that it is not bad for the gecko.
