Homemade Incubator questions for breeders ~!@

jerzreptile21 Jan 21, 2004 10:28 PM

Can I use a rubbermaid thats 11 by 16 inches and put a water heater in it witout it melting the rubbermaid.then inside i would have another smaller rubermaid conatiner floating on top wit the vermiculite in with the eggs buried half way.and a solid cover so the humidity wont come out.

That would work. Temps will by no means be warm enough to melt the rubbermaid. We are talking temps from 80-86 degrees and no more. I would like to make a suggestion. Some sort of platform should be made for the egg container. Floating I don't recommend. Also I recommend getting a fully submersible and adjustable aquarium heater. 50 watts should be plenty. I have made many of these incubators and they work very well. Hope this helps.

With the money you are gonna spen on making an incubator, why not just buy a hoverbator???? They are cheap enough and work pretty well.....
