Substrate sand grain size???

kremlinator Jan 21, 2004 11:31 PM

Hey all, I am gonna be transferring my male gold skink into a new cage in case the female is actually pregnant. I wanna try putting him in sand, as skinks love to burrow (at least mine try all the time). What size should I get??? Like large, medium, fine or what? I need to know ASAP cause I wanna transfer him soon!

Turns out the female doesn't care about the male!! she's fine without him. He on the other hand hasn't really moved in the makeshift cage he has now (has a cardboard lid taped from cereal boxes, ha ha). He is so confused by sand, fake foliage, a deer antler and newspaper bottom on one part of the cage. Is there anything I can do to help him? he doesn't wanna come out of his cave and even explore!!!

With inactivity, I'd check temperature first. Temps too low often lead to inactivity. On the other hand, if you just moved him to a new enclosure, being stressed out and hiding for a few days isn't surprising.
