Stargazing.............?

rsalib Jan 22, 2004 05:14 AM

Maybe I'm just over paranoid, but better safe than sorry.

I don't know if my burm is scoping out the cage door to make her next escape move, but she would just crawl up the side of the cage, and just hold that position for a little bit.

She doesn't just hold her body straight up in the middle of the cage. She only does a straight up body position when she does her nightly escape routine.

What would cause stargazing? How can I tell for sure if thats what it is or not? How often would a snake that has something wrong with itself, do stargazing?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Well, I was told that one of the reasons they do that is because they are hungry. I was worried about the same thing but she only does it a few days after she eats and is looking for food again.

it is probably not star gazing because if it was your snake would be falling over while she/he is trying to look up. Stargazing is not usually deadly in pythons but is almost always in boa.

If she's truly star gazing from IBD, you can test her by taking her out and watching how she moves. If she moves forward like a snake should, she's fine. If she ends up going in circles, leaning to one side to show her belly, etc. then something is very wrong.

I think she's just looking for you to feed her and has figured out where her meals come from. LOL!
