Breeding for markings over colouration???

RedQuake Jan 22, 2004 07:00 AM

Is anyone or does anyone know of someone breeding for specific markings instead of just colour? For example, trying to produce a spotless gecko except for one on the top of the head or nose?

I'm just curious But also because i saw a female leo with a distint large spot. She is het for blizzard and i think it would be soooooooo cool to have an all white leo with just one specific spot.

Thoughts, opinions? Is there a market for this sort of thing or is colouration still #1 on everyones purchase list?

Thanks,
Red

Personally, Although I find the super hypo tangs to be beautiful, I find them to be kinda boring to look it. For, I would like some geckos, with nice bright colors, but then have a nice bold interesting pattern on top of that. But not too much pattern. Actually, very much like Jak, who I have posted pics of below. I think the pattern helps bring out the leo's colors, and makes them look that much more impressive. But this is just my opinion =) Also, early someone had mentioned wanting a Tang that wasn't super hypo, or even hypo, I too would like one. Is there anybody that specializes in this, it doesn't sound like it should be hard to produce?

I don't really find any of the colourations boring at all. I'm just curious about creating designer geckos with specific spotting or designs. I saw a pic of a gecko with what looked like a space ship on its head, and others with happy faces. I guess stripes are a good example. Creating a gecko that passes on say, a cresent moon shape on its head to its offspring would be cool too. Maybe i'm just being silly, i don't know, i've found after looking at so many breeder sites this past week, that geckos with distinct markings/spots are very interesting.

Just a personal preferance. Sure, I love their colors, I just prefer them to not look so plain. I like the markings.
