Securing the humid hides?

RedQuake Jan 22, 2004 07:24 AM

For anything large and heavy securing the object is a must to prevent toppling and injury but does anyone secure their humid hides down?

Dot was on top of hers last night and it fell over, pinning her between it and the glass....I of course came running to her rescue hehe and all is well, no injuries that i can see and she's been out and about this morning moving all limbs with ease.

Now i'm wondering if i should silicone it to a piece of tile so it doesn't do that again. I created some caves for Boo using this method and i even contacted the company who makes the silicone to confirm it would be ok to use on tile above the UTH without eventually melting. They said it was and Boo is now enjoying his new setup.

Thoughts?
THanks

What are you using for a humid hide now? Just wondering so I could plan something

Do you put the containers right side up or upside down? Containers with tapered sides are unstable almost always (depends on the taper and height of the container) in their right side up position, if you put them upside down however (so the lid is on the floor of the tank), they will be much more stable since there's no pivot point for a moment (uhh... torque? not quite sure what the layman's term is, this is what mechanical engineering does to you) to act on.

That might be the simple solution you're looking for. Filling the thing with moss/paper towels gets slightly more fiddly, but there's less risk of your leo toppling it over.

For the longest time Dot had her humid hide upside down. She did that herself too I put it back right side up and well....not a good idea from what happened. Usually i have them top up but your suggestion i will follow from now on.

Thankyou very much. Sometimes the easiest solutions slip my mind hehehe
