leopard gecko bleeding

leopardman Jan 22, 2004 09:39 AM

I have a breeding rack set-up for my leopards and during some routine cleaning, I opened a sweater box that houses my male jungle tremper albino and two female tremper hets and saw a dried blotch of blood the size of a nickel on the newspaper. This is the first year my male is breeding( 14 months old and 70g)and the second season for my hets.I was curious if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone would know what this could be?I checked out my leopards from head to toe and they appear fine but I did see a very small piece of dried blood by my males vent area although he could have walked through it.Please let me know what you think.

Well, blood in the stool is not normal. I would suggest to have a fecal float done to check for parasites. Sometimes there is a probability of hookworms with this type of symptom, but it can also be protozoal or bacterial enteritis.

I don't think the blood has anything to do with his stool(could be wrong). All 3 animals have been kept seperated until breeding and up til then all were eating well and had normal stools(I had put my breeding group together 1-19-04).The blood looked as if someone would have cut there finger and dripped 2 drops onto the newspaper substrate.I am wondering if the blood was tied to them breeding somehow? This is my males first time breeding so I wonder if something is wrong with him?One thing I might do is seperate them and see what happens,i.e. stools, and behavior?Has anyone noticed blood in a breeding groups other than battle scars?
