Dragon poo...

a2zgraphix Jan 22, 2004 11:22 AM

I was wondering if dragon poo is supposed to smell soooo bad?? My new dragon pooed and as I walked in the room it almost floored me because the smell was so strong.

Dragon poop shouldn't smell THAT bad. Smelly stool is a sign of internal parasites. I would advise that you bring a stool sample to your vet to get it checked out.

I believe it has a lot to do with their diet also. When I switched my dragon to pellets I noticed his poo didn't have such a strong stench as before.

I wondered if it was due to his diet. I have offered him fresh greens etc but he is uniterested in them and prefers his crickets. I am going to watch him closely and see what his next poop looks like,I have only had him for 3 days and he has pooped just once. How frequently do they poop? Sorry for all the questions but Im new to Beardies and all of your help is truly appreciated!!

My BD's shiz doesn't stink....LOL. Actually, when I first brought my second dragon home he laid a big ole poop and it absolutely stunk up the whole room. My first guys poops never stunk and I started to wonder if I was going to be able to live with the new guy if he just had a bad odor about him. After his second poop though his poop never smelled that bad again. I don't know if it was something the pet store was feeding or environmental thing that made him stink but i'm glad it went away. I feed mine greens, crickets, and pellets and don't find any real difference in the way it makes his poops smell.

my poop stinks worse than if I'm not.... LOL Wonder if it works the same for beardies? Stress from shipping maybe? I'd still get a fecal just to be on the safe side.

Most young beardies will eat mainly crix and not mess with the veggies too much. That should not change the fact that the poop shouldn't smell that bad! I would suggest having a fecal done by a vet and at a very minimum treat him with parazap which you can purchase at most pet stores or on line from a number of places.
