Oregon Redsided Garter

rearfang Jan 22, 2004 01:45 PM

I recently purchased a garter (male 2') in a local pet shop that was IDed as an Oregon red side. it is similar to the photo I have of one called "concinnus" except that the head (instead of black) is solid red. This one (contrary to my native "Floridians"will only eat fuzzy mice-Lots of them. Any info on these?

I have 2 Oregon red-Sided garters (Thamnophis sirtalis concinnus). They are one of several subspecies of the Common Garter that exhibits a lot of red. They are similiar to the California Red-Sided (T s infernalis) and the Red-Sided (T s parietalis). I was confused by your posting. Is your snake black headed or red headed? Can you post a pic?
