Dakota .. my Super Orange male... crix free versus crix fed size comparison

BeginnersBasics Jan 22, 2004 02:03 PM

Dakota is almost 10 months old ....
He is 15 1/2" with a tail nip and looks like he has atleast 1" missing from the nip. So he would be 16 1/2" if complete. He is also 290 grams. This is one of my beardies that I have raised up crix free. So from the time I got him at 4 months old, he has never seen a cricket. I think he is doing pretty darn well LOL

Just for those that want a comparison to a crix fed dragon, I just took the following info from Beautifuldragons.com. It is Carrick Bug's measurements who is owned by Reiko .... 9 months 16 1/2" 316 grams

thanks Lisa,,, thats good to see, I was the one further down the postings that was wondering about not feeding any more crix. I had run outa crix and was wondering if my guy would be ok on greens and pellets,,,, btw, he's eating everything but i still think he looking for the crix,,, everything else seems normal (ie. pooping--maybe a little more watery but he's getting my water from the veggies) Thanks again. L.

Thanks! He's a big hog.

I'm actually trying to get both of my beardies onto pellets. Frankly, I'm tired of the damn worms!!! I mean maybe as a treat now and then but I'd like to get both mainly on pellets.

That seems like alot of growth in 6 months ....... You sure you aren't using steroids or something?LOL ... He must be one of those that likes the "weeds". LOL

Actually, he's been on silkies for 4 months and crix prior to that.

For the record, I got him from a petshop. He was about 7" long ST and the girl told me he hadn't been there that long. Honestly, she takes very good care of all the reptiles there. Anyway, that was on 8/25 so I guessed him to be about 8 weeks old which would put him at about 6/25.

Most of the growth definitely came when he was on the silkies, though.

The earliest record for weight I have for him is on 9/23 he was at 20 grams. That weight was recorded at his 1st vet check. That's about the same time I started feeding him silkies, then his growth just got crazy fast!! Honestly I figured it was a good growth rate but really didn't even think to compare it until I saw Lisa's post in this thread.

I think it's my other beardie who likes the "weeds" a bit too much! I love him to death but he's just a bit on the, well, I'll just say I think he was left in the oven waaaaay too long ! Just the other day I swear he was trying to spell out 420 with his pellets, but before he was done he started head bobbing them then crapped on 'em. Strange.

It's nice to know that crix free dragons can get just as big as those raised on crix. Any chance you have growth charts for crix free babies that I can add to my site? I think that would be very valuable info.

Great job raising Dakota Lisa. He looks beautiful!
