Now that's a solid-colored snake.
I don't find very many pure black ones. Most have some white patterning to them. Occasionally I will find a few with Red or orange and black checkared bellies.

I hope that you will post a series of pictures as this little guy starts to darken. That is a very nice young snake. In the wild, I have seen Black Rat Snakes that were a very dark shade of brown and not the usual black. With as much brown as is showing now, I would like to see how it turns out. You also have a very nice snake that looks well cared for. Keep posting pictures for us.
this is one of my october babies of 2003 the mother was from virginia and the father was a nice jet glossy black i dont have pics of the mom as i returned her back to the wild and the father i just havent took a pic of yet ..well anyways heres one of the babies

He looks like a rusty in that sunlight !
Wow! This has got to be one of the nicest Black rats IVe seen so far! Can't really remember seing nicer
