Today i thought i'd introduce Lily and Nala seeing as i'd like to keep them in the same tank. I got out one of my spare 10 gallon tanks and put them in. Lily walked around for a good two minutes before she noticed Nala there LOL (they each had one hide). Once they both saw eachother there was some slow tail flicking by Lily and then they came right up to eachother and started licking eachother then went their own way.

I thought what the heck, lets see how all the girls do together. All five were introduced in the tank and WOW they all got along just great. I took the tank up to our bay window for some natural lighting and took pics.....i can't wait to get them developed!!!!! I ran out of film and i'm so upset cause Lily, Dot and Abby all grouped together one on top of the other placed their head on the others back and went to sleep.......How cute is that. Darn film....getting 36 films from now on hehehe.

They stayed together for a good 20-30 min with no fighting. The only one not to impressed was Zoe but that was like the second time out of her own tank.

Now if i get a large tank would it be ok to keep them all together.....they are all girls for sure. I do have a 40 gallon (18" X 36" but i don't think its big enough for 5 girls (10 gal/gecko rule). And if i do put them all together should i have little get togethers like today for a few weeks before putting them all into a new tank?

And to people who do keep groups of geckos together, how many bowls of food and water do you have in it?

I'll post the pics tomorrow (tractortrailer overturned at the lights just outside of town....roads are aweful so i'll wait until tomorrow to get them developed). They all look to be the same size, some differences, but i'd like opinions on if i can keep them together or not

Thanks and sorry this is so long, i'm just so exicted.

after taking the girls upstairs i got to see for the first time the beauty of their colours. NOTHING compares to natural lighting thats for sure!!! Nala always looked rather grey to me but once in the sunlight i got to see how yellow she actually is. I don't know what constitutes a banana blizzard but once the pics are posted hopefully someone can tell me if she is

I currently have two large, slate tanks. One has adult females, five of them, and they seem to do great together. The other tank has 8 juveniles, I’m pretty sure they are all female. You should only need one water dish, one food bowl, and a calcium dish. All the girls I’ve had are good about sharing things like that. I’d suggest using at least a few humid hides, because they can get awful cramped if everyone tries to pile into one. Looking forward to your pics!

Thankyou They are all still young so i'm not as concerned about putting them together as i would be if they were all adults. I went to check out the site of the place i bought some of my tanks from but they are offline......so i'll check back later. If i can get a tank with more floor space than my 40 gal that would be great. They usually have some great tanks at good prices. This would also create so much space for me that breeding would be possible. Not that i will do it this year with my current group but.....

I'm not sure how these girls will be about sharing....i'll have to put them together at feeding time with one dish of mealies and see what happens. Two of them are quick to jump on the bowl while the others tank their time.

Thanks for your help

If you have 5 girls and each only has two eggs that's 20 leos plus the 5 you had. I'd save up some money and buy a rack systems. You can even bulid one for cheap yourself it's not that hard. But the bottom line is that even if you end keeping half of the leos 10 10 gallons laying is more hard to maintain then one rack. Just a though plan ahead.

paradisio Jan 22, 2004 03:10 PM

Yea... And CHEAPER!

Racks from sellers are really expensive, because of supplies and shipping and etc...

I would suggest looking around at walmart or something for cheap racks with plastic drawers that fit tightly and see if you can wire some heat tape to the bottom of them :P

davecable Jan 22, 2004 03:27 PM

It is under construction, like everything around here *sigh*, but it gives you an idea of where I’m headed. I’ll get you all some more detailed pics when it is completed.

paradisio Jan 22, 2004 03:30 PM

Hmm where did you get those?

See you space cowboy

davecable Jan 22, 2004 03:37 PM

They are Rubbermaid shelf units. I bought them at OfficeMax, and stacked 2 on top of each other. I’ll explain it better when I get some more detailed pics.

RedQuake Jan 22, 2004 03:42 PM

Cool rack. You heated that with heat tape? I thought for heat tape you had to have horizontal racks. When it comes to *under construction* i totally understand. I have a few things on the go and my dad......well he's started renovating a few rooms that are still not finished LOL. We need a few hundred grand to get things all done LOL.

Nope, I don’t use heat tape. There are 4 ‘black light’ bulbs that run down the center of the rack that are attached to dimmers. Each tank will have a 4x4 piece of tile near the bulb to hold heat. The lights are close enough to provide warmth, but still far enough away to avoid overheating/discoloration of the clear bins.

RedQuake Jan 22, 2004 04:00 PM

Thats cool. I have to be careful now much power i draw as we are still using fuses and i've had a bad habit lately of blowing them LOL. Mostly because i've plugged in my heater to the room fuse instead of going out and getting a baseboard heater and having it on its own fuse like i should do LOL. My room used to be the rec room and there was a very long baseboard heater along one wall. When we renovated and painted we took it off (pulled the fuse for it and capped off the wires) and i was supposed to get a smaller one since we cut the room in half but i never did.

I just got into the site where i bought my other tanks. They don't have them on the site but at the store i've seen huge corner tanks with screen tops. I'll have to take a trip up there so i can measure the floor space.

I've just bought a new 20 gal and did some new setups. Go figure after all that work i now think about putting them altogether hehehe.

I was surprised that you and paradisio knew what Cowboy Bebop is. I’m a big fan, and think it’s probably the best anime series I’ve seen. The movie was great, but unless you have seen the series, it would be hard to fully appreciate it.

Huh? :P

RedQuake Jan 22, 2004 06:25 PM

Is it like the Gundom (sp?) series? I really like that series.

It doesn’t share much in common w/ gundam. Other than they are both anime. I like bebop because of the amazing animation, and the depth of the characters. If anyone decides to check it out, make sure you watch a few episodes before deciding it’s not for you. I had a hard time getting into the show when I only watched the first two episodes. But once I hit episode 5, I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. For anyone interested, its on cartoon network late at night.

TebbyGecko Jan 22, 2004 06:43 PM

Yep, sure is a great series. I haven't finished watching it yet, but I really, really enjoy that show and .hack//sign. My two fav. animes. I have yet to see the Cowboy Bebop movie yet, but I saw the last episode before finishing the series and yeah.. it kind of ruined it all. >< Take care.

awesome racks..i've been thinking of building a rack system..anyways,,Cowboy Bebop is and will always be my favorite anime series..the movie..was just plain awesome..

RedQuake Jan 22, 2004 03:30 PM

True and yes i've looked at different options for racks. I would love to build one myself but the fact is heat tape isn't available in Canada so i'd have to order from the U.S. After looking around i've seen some good priced racks with the heating built in. Your right though, shipping and the exchange rate is going to kill my bank account. Thats another reason why breeding isn't going to happen any time soon. If i can put all my girls together safely without any problems that would be cool. The tank would be right beside my bed so i could see them all all the time (i have a huge desk which i could put a very large tank on). My only real concern would be fights over food and trying to train them all to poop in the same area LOL.

I've actually been looking at racks with the heating built in. But at this point i'm not confident enough that any of my girls are ready to breed, i still don't have a scale and none of them are close to the size of my adult male. Then theres my concern that Abby shouldn't breed at all, she had a bent leg when i got her, lack of calcium which has been corrected but the leg remains the same. I'm not sure i'll breed them and for sure it won't happen this year. We are going to be renovating soon which will give me then entire basement to myself, if i don't move out before that. I had planned on making my walkin closet a baby rack heaven but your right.....thats alot of leos to take care of and alot of work, not that i mind work. I would like to have hatchlings someday...i've seen the joy it creates in the owners, plus i have a few people already lined up for any leos i do hatch. Right now more than anything i'm happy that all of my leos are healthy and growing well. I'm not going to become a big time breeder or anything....its more about having one of everything i think LOL

Thanks for your input. i do appreciate it
