Beautiful snake. I assume it's a coastal? I can't help but think a lot of coastals look like they could be eastern x red. Thanks for sharing that photo; it sure is a beauty.-Brett
They come from an area in northern Maryland where Coastal plain milk snakes are know from the counties to the south and Eastern milk snakes are known from counties to the north. The area is right around the fall line which separates the Mid Atlantic coastal plain from the piedmont. They are basically intermediate between L.T.Temporalis and L.T.Triangulum. Animals from the same clutch may have a collared neck or a Y neck.

I really like those snakes you have. This last one has some pretty interesting head marks. Awesome! Who did those come from? I'll be up in the northern VA area this summer so I'd really like to get some coastals and other natural crosses. Thanks for any help, and once again thanks for the pics. Hey, also do you have a photo gallery somewhere on the net? I checked the photo gallery on KS, and didn't see them on the milksnake sect. Sorry about all the Qs.-Brett
Hello,
They were produced by David Tracer. He had a wild collected pair from Cecil county, Maryland. He said he sold the pair to a Biologist working with L.T. Temporalis and I got the last of them. I was told that as adults they retain the red color with a very light clean background. out of a clutch of eight, four had collared necks and four had the "y" shape.

Seeing that one in your hands is starting to make me fantasize....LOL-Brett
Though it is found in areas of intergradation, it has all the charecteristics of an eastern. COLOR is not a distinguishing charecteristic, but head and belly pattern and band depth are. That said, it is one of the prettiest easterns I have seen! Jeff
